GWYNN OAK PARK - FINAL
DAYS

Gwynn Oak Amusement
Park was located in Woodlawn, Maryland. I lived just blocks away on
Rogers Avenue during the 1950's. As a young boy, my Mom took me to the
Park regularly aboard the #32 streetcar.
Setting adjacent to the Gwynn Falls stream, the Park met its demise in
1972 during Hurricane Agnes. It laid abandoned for a time and was
eventually leveled, leaving an open area that still exists today.
I filmed the abandoned Park in 1974 and created this 5-minute short
film. To capture the flavor of the times, additional scenes were shot at
Hershey Park in 1975 including the Carousel, Roundup, Kiddy Whip, and
the exterior of the Rotojets. However, the interiors of the Rotojets,
Butterfly and Big Dipper were from home movies shot at Gwynn Oak Park in
1963.
