Harold Spicer was an award-winning photographer for the Baltimore News Post from 1939 to 1972. His passion was steam locomotives. In the 40's and 50's, he took hi-resolution photos and made crystal-clear audio recordings, capturing forever the sights and sounds of these classic locomotives as they barreled across the rails of the Eastern US. This 60-minute presentation is an entertaining compilation of his work with over 70 of his original photos and recordings. The DVD
includes steam locomotives of the B&O, New York Central,
Pennsylvania Railroad, Western Maryland and others. You will see in
amazing detail Mr. Spicer's entire photo collection of passenger
trains, freights, and train wrecks, presented both in Full Frame and
Widescreen formats. You will hear whistles blowing in signature style,
bells ringing, pistons chugging and wheels clacking. You will feel the
rumble and maybe even smell the coal smoke!![]() Harold Spicer's equipment included a 4x5 camera and wire recorder, both considered state-of-the-art sixty years ago. Mr. Spicer could not have imagined a future technology enabling rail fans all over the world to enjoy his photos and recordings on one medium. He would be impressed and very proud. |
